The Will of the Voters

In 2009, frustrated voters changed Macomb County to a charter form of government. The charter reduced the number of county commissioners from 26 to 13 and added a county executive to act as a single leader of the county. The executive will champion Macomb County in dealings with other metro area governments and regional business interests while having direct oversight for:

  • The County’s $470 Million Budget
  • County Roads and Infrastructure
  • Economic Growth and Development (Jobs)
  • Essential Services/Public Safety/Emergency Preparedness
  • Public Image
  • Present and Future Planning
  • New Department Positions and Appointments Created by the Charter

A New Direction

Approval of the charter sends a clear message, that it is time for a fresh perspective in Macomb County government. Voters are tired of recycling the same elected officials that were responsible for driving record budget shortfalls in the county. The residents and business owners of Macomb County want an executive that will serve the people, not the special interests. Macomb County’s first executive must have a vision for the county and an eye for reform; someone who can make tough decisions but still drive taxpayer value through all aspects of county government.

Simon Haddad is the person who will bring focus, fresh ideas and a business mentality to lead the county out of these tough times. As a successful entrepreneur, father and husband, Simon understands the lifestyles, aspirations and challenges facing Macomb County residents and businesses. Unlike many career politicians, Simon is not beholden to special interest groups and will always put the best interest of the people of Macomb County first. By creating an atmosphere to attract business and spur job growth, Macomb County will return to prosperity and continue to be a great place to live and work.

Government for the People by the People

A wise man once said: “if you want to know what someone will be like tomorrow, look at who they were yesterday.”

The above statement rings true about our leaders. Can we expect those who have made careers of promoting their own agenda to put the people first now? Should lengthy tenure in government or elected office be the primary qualification for the county executive? As a citizen activist, Simon fought government waste and abuse throughout the county, serving as the voice of the people. Whether someone is a senior citizen on a fixed income, parents of young children or an unemployed worker waiting for a job to open, there is concern that an irresponsible government today will place a tremendous burden on tomorrow.

As county executive, Simon Haddad will bring conservative principles as a leader who will champion Macomb County, taking action for the people and in the best interests of the people. With Macomb County’s future at stake, action must happen now. Simon is committed to restoring credibility, sustainability and responsibility to Macomb County government as your county executive.
